A friend of mine once referred to herself and her daughter as unicorns, because they’re rare and very special. They’re fighting EOE, and no one person is the same, and everyone responds differently. She referred to Chris as a unicorn because of this as well so I sometimes called him a unicorn.
He’s Not a Unicorn!
Ray overheard me say this one day. He said, “Mommy, he is not a unicorn. Yes he’s special and unicorns are mythical creatures, but they are peaceful and fluffy. Chris is a dragon. They are strong and never stop fighting. They never give up. They aren’t peaceful. They fight against all odds. Chris. He is a dragon.”
Dragon or Unicorn
Either way, no matter how you refer to these kids who are fighting EOE and EGIDS (Eosinophilic Gastrointestinal Disorders), they are fighters and survivors. They are handed a hard hand at life and keep fighting, and they never give up.
